MY NAME IS RONALD SMITH AND I STARTED SCHOOL 67 yrs IT WAS 1941 AND POVERTY WAS QUITE RIFE A FEW CHILDREN I SEEN WITHOUT SHOES DIRTY FEET, AND BADLY SHOD , CHIDRENS CLOTHING WAS NEARLY ALWAYS PATCHED. IT WAS THE INFANTS AND I THINK THE WOMEN TEACHER`S NAME WAS MISS CLEARY. A FEW YEARS LATER I MOVED OVER TO THE BOYS SECTION. THE HEADMASTER AT THE TIME WAS A Mr ASHTON WHO LIVED QUITE NEAR . HE WAS VERY OLD FASHION AND RULED WITH FEAR AND THE CANE. I HATED SCHOOL AS MOST TEACHERS USED THE SAME FEAR FACTOR THE CANE!! PADDY ASHTON RETIRED AND A NEW HEADMASTER TOOK OVER HIS NAME BEING HERBERT SIMPSON HE LOVED SPORT AND HIM COMING BACK FROM DINNER WOULD OFTEN JOIN IN A HEADING GAME OF FOOTBALL WHICH WAS AWAYS A NO, NO, HE WAS CHAIRMAN OF THE SWIMMING COMMITTEE AND COACHED ME IN THE EVERTON SWIMM CLUB I ENDED UP DOING SPEED TRIALS AND HAD A FREE PASS FOR ALL BATHS IN LIVERPOOL IWAS THE SCHOOL CHAMPION BEFORE I LEFT FOR THE PAST 3 Yrs. the education system was all wrong, if you didnt get it the first time round you were left behind then classed as thick. boy was i glad to leave!!.
