Huyton

Sandwiched between the M62 and M57 motorways and lying to Liverpool's east is the town of Huyton. A town mainly made up of residential and shopping areas, and boasting it's own Air Force training squadron, Huyton has been unusually blessed with famous residents in recent times: the Liverpool FC captain, and lynchpin of the England team, Stephen Gerrard, who has just lifted the Champions League trophy, is Huyton born and bred; film actor, Rex Harrison, star of such classics as "Cleopatra" and "My Fair Lady", was born in Huyton and attended a local school; comedian Freddie Starr and ex-premiership football manager Peter Reid also grew up here. But perhaps the town's most important ex-resident is the one-time Prime Minister, Harold Wilson, who was the member of parliament for Huyton at the peak of his political career in the 60's and 70's.
